Theatre & Music

Summit County deserves its lofty name. It has a base elevation above 9,000 feet. (If you have problems with high altitudes, take note. If you like spring skiing, also take note: High elevations usually mean a longer ski season). Each of these areas stays open until mid-April, and Arapahoe Basin—with its base lodge above 10,000 feet—often stays open until July 4.

None of this means that there is not a vibrant arts community in Summit County. There is.

Indeed, the Backstage Theatre in has been presenting a variety of live theater since 1974. More recent productions have included Me and Jezebel by Elizabeth Fuller, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stuart Ross's Forever Plaid, and Travels with My Aunt by Giles Havergal. Ticket prices vary but most are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12; reservations are strongly recommended.

If this is all too staid for you, well, a few surprises may be in store. The U.S. Men of Steel male dance revue have performed recently at Summit County. This type of event isn't typical for Summit County, but who knows where it can lead to.

The U.S. Men Of Steel represents the ultimate girls night out. The tux goes on, the final adjustment of a tie, then music, lights, action! The show explodes on stage with a dazzling variety of choreographed acts.

Summit County also has a number of music venues. You can enjoy popular live music, and at dance club you'll hear practically everything. From reggae to blues to hip-hop, Summit County boasts it all.
