Mountain Information
Breckenridge Ski Resort is known among visitors for having a great variety of terrain for all abilities and among locals for having exciting steeps and backcountry access. Visitors travel from all over to ski or snowboard at Breckenridge's ski area.
The resort opens the second week of November and closes after the third week in April. It is open daily from 8:30 to 4pm. Breckenridge Ski Area opened in 1961 with one double chair lift and a rope tow. Today it has 28 lifts and encompasses a series of adjacent peaks, with over 4,000 feet of vertical drop. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or at ticket windows. Breckenridge has an outstanding ski and snowboard school and there are many places to rent gear and equipment.
Breckenridge has a wide variety of terrain and opportunities for all level skier and snowboarders. If you are just learning, check out Chair 7 on Peak 8 or the Quicksilver Super6 lift on Peak 9. About 15% of the ski area's terrain is designated beginner. For intermediate skiing abilities, Peak 7 is a great place to make some turns. Also check out a local's favorite called Claimjumper on Peak 8. The skiing opportunities for intermediate skiers and snowboarders are the greatest, making up 33% of the runs. Duke's Run on Peak 8 is a little more difficult and experts should spend some time on Peak 7 where they will find wide open treeless terrain with a 45 degree pitch. There are also hiking opportunities from this area to even steeper terrain. Every morning at 10am, a ski host offers a free mountain tour at the base of Peak 8 and Peak 9, a great way to get to know the terrain and to locate certain trails. These tours are open to intermediate skiers and snowboarders and above and hosts are full of information so don't be shy and ask lots of questions.
