Fishing //
Fishing in Colorado is just as fun as skiing in the state. With world-class fishing holes and the opportunities to fish at areas in complete solitude, Colorado is certainly one of the best places to fish in the country. Coupled with dramatic mountain scenery, large and small winding rivers and streams and wide open lakes, Colorado, and Summit County in particular, has a bit of everything for all anglers. Located adjacent to the quaint, old mining town of Dillon in central Colorado, the Lake Dillon Reservoir, or "Lake Dillon," is a great place to toss a lure if you are visiting the area.
Lake Dillon is the largest body of water in central Colorado. It has 25 miles of shoreline and is home to rainbows, brook trout, browns and Kokanee salmon. Coho salmon have recently been stocked in the lake in an effort to give the fish the opportunity to take hold and grow to maturity. Ice-out on the lake is usually between May 15 and June 10. The two to three week period immediately following ice-out usually offers very good fishing until the lake turns over. Besides fishing from the lakes shore, the best way to land fish is to cruise across the lake on a boat or belly-boat, working the inlets and bays.
On the east shore of Lake Dillon, the small mountain community offers panoramic views of the Ten Mile Range, as well as easy access to the Blue River Valley – which also offers great fishing options. The town of Dillon has everything for the visitor from shopping to golf and tennis to quality accommodations and sailing and cycling.
