more info
Summit County has some of the best fishing in the world, so rest
assured that you can have a memorable fishing experience. There are
friendly and knowledgeable guides available, tackle shops, rental
equipment, fishing school or individual fishing instruction.
Summit County is also near the headwaters of five major rivers. This
means you have the option to fish the Blue, Eagle, Colorado, Arkansas
and South Platte Rivers, a dozen smaller streams, three reservoirs with
record-breaking fish, and even a few "lunker ponds" – in short,
virtually any kind of trout fishing you might want. Furthermore, guide
service is available 12 months a year.
You'll find everything you need to make your next trip a huge success!
Colorado River
This river shows good flow and clarity. Mosquitoes can be quite
hellacious at times, but then fishing is good with Golden Stone,
Caddis, and 'Hopper attractors trailed by bead P.T.s, Barr's emergers
and dark midge larvae. The Pale Morning Dun and Green Drake hatches may
be encountered any time during the day (along with tiny Baetis) with
some cloud cover, or late afternoon if it is sunny and hot.
Eagle River
The Eagle is very fishable. In addition to spotty Pale Dun and
Green Drake hatches, the Caddis and small Stoneflies are pretty much
everywhere and late afternoon dry fly fishing is excellent. When
the fish aren't rising on their own, try throwing Stimulators or
'Hoppers trailed by Copper Johns or Princes in the riffles and broken
runs, or try dragging Wooly Buggers through the pockets and slack water
along the edges.
Williams Fork
This river is in great shape and should remain fairly steady, but there
is still plenty of standing water for the skeeters to breed in, so be
sure to use Industrial Strength repellent. While you'll see "brush
hatches" of caddis all day long, the Mayflies are where it's at. Baetis
and Tricos are likely to be on the water mid- to late- morning with the
Pale Duns and Drakes appearing around mid-day.
