As more people visit Summit County, Colorado year after year it seems that more and more are lured into staying. The economy has been for the most part based on tourism but as more move to the area, there has been a need for more social and relocation services. Currently the industries in Summit County include wholesale trade, retail, real estate, professional services, administrative, educational, health care, entertainment, and accommodation and food services.
Wholesale trade represents the step in between manufacturing and selling of merchandise. Wholesale trade jobs make up 191 of the job market. Retail jobs, totaling 2,801, represent the last stage of distributing merchandise. Retail stores lure locals, businesses and tourists. Real estate, rental, and leasing jobs make up 1,295 of the job market. There are 531 jobs for professionals and technicians, 600 jobs for administrative and waste management positions, and only 66 jobs for educational services. Health care and social services make up 168 jobs. The next two sectors display how much the economy in Summit County depends on tourism. Jobs in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector total 2,017 and accommodation and food service jobs make up 7,781 jobs.
